Why Choose State Parks?

Why Choose State Parks?

We have been traveling full-time for over 4 years now and have been to over 120 campgrounds all over the US. State Parks are one of our favorite places to camp.

Now, I will start by saying that we have a 42 ft. fifth wheel and sometimes are not able to stay in state parks because of our size. So, first things first:

  • Check their website, call, and read the reviews to make sure it’s a good fit for you and your rig.

Now, if you can choose a state park as your camping destination then let me tell you all about the benefits of staying at them. State parks play a crucial role in preserving and protecting our wildlife habitats and natural landscapes. For this reason, you can ensure that you will be surrounded by beautiful scenery and fascinating wildlife.

State parks not only provide a clean, beautiful place to camp but they also provide many activities to participate in while visiting. In many state parks you will find hiking trails, fishing, kayaking, mountain biking and more. Some even have swimming pools and other amenities to make your experience even more eventful.

One of our favorite things about state parks are the learning and education opportunities. Since we are a full-time travel family, we homeschool/roadschool our two kids. So, for us this is a huge positive.

The visitors’ centers usually have awesome exhibits to walk through and learn with some offering hands on crafts and activities. The state parks that offer the junior ranger programs are a very neat way to get children interested in our environment. They can fill out a workbook of fun interactive activities and once completed your child can show it to a ranger to receive a badge. It’s so fun and very educational.

Don’t forget, when choosing a state park, they only allow a 2-week stay at a time. Always check their websites for promotional codes for discounts when booking. Book in advance, these places are beautiful, and it can be hard to get a reservation at the last minute.
