3.5 years ago, when we got this crazy idea to sell our house and essentially everything we own to live and travel around the United States, we were overwhelmed by the options that were available. Fifth wheels, motorhomes, Airstreams, bumper pulls, schoolies and more. How would we choose?
Searching For The Right RV
July 24, 2024
I still remember the first time we went to a dealership. We looked at everything. For us, we quickly made the decision to go with a fifth wheel. Class C motorhomes were too small for the 4 of us and our 2 dogs. Class A motorhomes were too expensive, and we didn’t have the time or space to renovate something older. A fifth wheel offered the space we needed and the safety we were looking for in towing. But that was just the beginning. Now we had a million different fifth wheels to look at and decide between. Once we stepped foot in a Highland Ridge Open Range fifth wheel we were hooked. The quality was what we were looking for, the amenities were exactly what we needed, and the price was right on point.
A few items that we knew we needed to make this full-time rv living thing work were the residential items. Our fifth wheel has a residential refrigerator, stove and 4 burner cooktop, stackable washer and dryer, and a large farmhouse single basin sink. We have tons of storage, a king size master and a mid-bunk room for the kids with a large loft above it. Another thing that sold us on our floorplan was the outdoor kitchen. We love to entertain and be outside, so this was a huge bonus. Ultimately, we ended up buying site unseen because the dealership that had the model we wanted was about 6 hours from
where we lived at the time. We were thrilled with our decision and still over 3 years later we couldn’t be happier.
So, my advice to anyone looking to purchase an RV is to make a list.
• Budget
• Type of Rv
• Must-haves
• Bonus items that would be nice but not a deal breaker.
• Items you absolutely do not want to see.
Take your time, try to not get overwhelmed and keep searching if you aren’t finding what you want. With all the different options out there, I promise you will eventually find your perfect fit.
