Traveling With Kid's

Traveling with kids will change your life. I mean this metaphorically and literally.

Metaphorically speaking, getting to see your travels and adventures through their little eyes. Everything is new and exciting to them. Everything is more innocent and simpler. Everything is just greater through a child’s eyes.

Literally speaking, it’s literally more challenging. When traveling with children you must plan your schedules around them and their needs. You must plan your adventures around their abilities. You must think of them first before you make your plans.

Now with that said, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Austin and I had always talked about traveling full-time when we retired one day, and our kids were out living life on their own. But, what is stopping you from just taking the kids?? I think some might think we are crazy, but I think the majority will see why we chose to travel with our children on the front half of life instead of the back half after they leave the nest. We are incredibly grateful for the time we are getting with our children while they are young. They are getting to grow up in a life full of adventure and fun. They are getting to experience places that most will only see through textbooks or online.

One question we received a lot at the beginning of our travels was, “why are you traveling with such young children? They will never remember this and you’re taking them away from friends and family.” Our kids were 1.5 and 3 years old when we hit the road to travel full-time in our fifth wheel. What we often respond with is this…

  1. They may not remember all our travels and adventures, but we will.
  2. We are raising them in a lifestyle that is adventurous and courageous and teaches you to adapt to different situations.
  3. We visit friends and family often and can visit everyone in different parts of the US that would be harder if we were stationary.
  4. We are meeting new people from all over the world that we have made lifelong connections with that otherwise we would have never known.
  5. This time spent as a family unit (meaning the 4 of us) is priceless and so much more than we could ever have expected.

So, if you’re considering traveling with your littles. Our response is, DO IT!!!!! They are only little once; you only live once so enjoy this time together. Yes, you may have to plan things a little differently or change up adventures a bit to better fit your child’s needs but it’s worth it. It’s worth it to adventure with them and experience things together. It’s worth it to push yourself out of your comfort zone to see things through your child’s eyes. TAKE THE KIDS!!!!.
